4th of July Stupidity!

Beer Barrel Belly Buster BurgerI was reading the news today about different ways people and organizations celebrate the 4th of July weekend and came across the most ridiculous and stupid meal at Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield, Pennsylvania.  It wasn’t bad enough that so many Americans are overweight that it’s turning into a huge national crisis that’s going to cost billions in unnecessary medical expenses, Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub has decided that people aren’t quite fat enough yet.

Yep, introducing the “Beer Barrel Belly Buster Burger.”  A full FIFTEEN POUNDS of burger, bun, salad and condiments!  I looked at the photo and then showed it to my husband who said, “who could eat that?”  At first I agreed with him but then after reflecting for a moment I realized that of course people are buying it and eating it.  If the restaurant sells it then obviously it’s not too much to eat, right?

I don’t know what it’s going to take to change peoples’ thinking about portion size but the Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub certainly isn’t helping vulnerable overeaters in any way at all!  That one burger would feed me for an entire week if I ate nothing else at all.

Happy 4th of July and I hope you’re eating smart.  If not eating smart, I hope you’re not being stupid.  :)

I have to agree…that’s the stupidest invention ever. You must feel absolutely sick as a dog after you eat it! 15 POUNDS of food? You’ll be hearing about a lawsuit soon when someone drops straight dead at Denny’s while eating one!

I wonder if anyone actually buys these things. They are just do ridiculously over the top.

Also, too much salad on it if they’re seriously targeting the gutses among us. Get rid of the green and red junk and make way for more cheese, bacon and egg I say.

I agree with your husband when he said who could eat that. Imagine there are so many not having enough to eat and over here people are doing things like this. Is it of any benefits to people’s health? It does not make and logical sense.

WOW That’s a huge burger! Belated Happy 4th of July to you :D I was in New York for the 4th of July and the bus I took down to New York stopped at a Pit stop in Rochester where they had a Tim Horton’s (a Canadian Dunkin Donuts equivalent) so I decided to get my regular ‘Medium Double-Double’ (Medium Coffee, Double Cream, Double Sugar) and to my shock (only because I had forgotten about the portion size difference) it was larger than our large size cups!! Unbelievable!

I’ve seen other stories about this pub. They have sold some of those burgers on special occasions, but it’s mostly a publicity gimmick. But I still agree with you, one more poor example of good eating choices.

I checked the restaurant website… and I believe the picture you have above is for the “FIFTY PLUS POUNDS BEER BARREL BELLY BRUISER”. OMG.

The “Beer Barrel Belly Buster Burger” which you refer to in this post… is indeed 15 pounds, but apparently, it’s meant for 2 people to eat. STILL CRAZY. No one should be eating 7.5 pounds of meat in one meal, LOL. Actually… even spread out in 1 day… or several days…

    Yikes. O_O
